This topic also has to do with current events. Iran is a country that, mark my words, will have a great affect on the world in the next 20 years. They are now developing a nuclear bomb, which is against international law and against the wishes of almost every other country. I think there will be a major crisis around this country within the next 5 years, if not sooner. This movie, which takes place in Iran, is based on a true story. To this day, in Iran, stoning still remains as a very real punishment for women who break Iran's version of the law. Something else to keep in mind about the country of Iran. Iran was just elected to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. This is an international group that is supposed to work for women's rights around the world and conduct reviews of nations that violate women's rights -- does anyone see the irony in that? This election came just one week after one of its senior clerics (holy men) declared that women wearing revealing clothing are to blame for the earthquakes around the world. Yes, I did not mistype that statement. So, in the same way that you're all aware of what's now going on in North Korea, pay attention to what's going on in Iran.
Note: Try to get to HF class on time/early on Wednesday, as we have about 40 minutes of the movie left and I don't want to have to cut it off before the end.
